Q. Do you do vouchers for Tanners?
Yes. They can be purchased for any amount that you require, and with advance notice they can be personalised with a message. Vouchers are valid for six months from the date of purchase; we do ask that on booking you mention you will be paying by voucher and that the voucher is presented at the end of the meal. We regret that change for vouchers can not be issued.
Q. Can we bring children?
Yes. We would ask that other peoples’ enjoyment is respected: children should not run around as all tables have hard edges and corners, with delicate glasses and vases on them. If your child becomes distressed or agitated we ask that you take then outside until they calm down. We do not have high chairs here at Tanners, or a children’s menu, but we can cook smaller portions of most of our dishes and providing we have the ingredients the kitchen can cook what your child would like.
Q. Where can I park the car?
There is limited on-street parking, car parking on St Andrews Street and St Catherine’s Street which are either side of the Prysten house. Close by, there is the Guildhall car park, for which access is gained from Notte Street. Or there are the big multi storey car parks either next to the Theatre Royal or in the Drake Circus shopping mall.
Q. Is smoking permitted on the premises?
The entire building is designated “No Smoking”.
Q. Can mobile phones be used on the premises?
Yes, however we ask that your phone is turned to ‘silent’ and that you leave the premises to answer calls as a mark of respect to our other diners.
Q. Do you cater for people with special dietary needs?
Should you have any specific dietary needs, please advise reservations when booking your table. We can accommodate dietary requirements at the last minute as we cook everything to order, but a warning helps us that bit more.
Q. Is there a dress code?
We like all our guests to feel relaxed and comfortable during their dining experience. We do have a smart casual dress code in the restaurant, however we leave this to the guest’s discretion. Guests are requested not to wear sports clothing, hats and shorts in the evening.
Q. What should I be aware of when making a reservation?
We respectfully remind guests that a reservation constitutes a contract between themselves and Tanners Restaurants Ltd.
We ask that you arrive no later than 5 minutes before your table reservation time to allow time for an aperitif and to order.
Here at Tanners the table is yours for the service period so there is no need for you to rush from our point of view. We do however ask that if you are running late to inform us, as 15 minutes after your reservation time, if we have not heard from you, we may resell your table, or delay your table to accommodate those that arrive on time.
We recommend booking a table in advance, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings. However it is possible to accommodate walk-ins occasionally so feel free to pop in and ask or give us a call at the last minute. We cannot guarantee tables to walk-ins and you may have to wait in the bar for a table.
Before making a booking, please be aware that we request credit or debit card details for all reservations on a Friday and Saturday evenings, a sum of £10 per person will be taken from the card to secure the booking which will be deducted from the bill at the end of the evening. Please note that for reservations of tables of six or more at any time of the week, a £10 deposit per person is required on booking.
A discretionary service charge of 12.5% will be included on your bill (for tables of eight or more) for you to consider – Thank you.
Q. Do you cater for weddings at Tanners?
Yes Tanners is a great venue for weddings, our comfortable lounge bar can seat 18-20 people with a further 20 standing. You and your guests can spread between the three rooms at the restaurant after your wedding breakfast and enjoy each others’ company – we can even arrange entertainment to suit your requirements!
We can cater for groups of up to 32 in our main dining room and up to 50 in the courtyard or you could enjoy a private function for up to 25 in the unique Frater Room.
We do not have a set wedding package as we tailor everything to each party to make it a truly personal experience to help make your day special. Our Wedding Menus start from £50.00 per person including VAT.
Q. Do you offer private dinners at Tanners?
Yes whilst depending on the number of people in your party you can have the main restaurant or the courtyard exclusively. For smaller parties of 8 people up to 25, you can enjoy a private function upstairs in the unique Frater Room. Access to the Frater Room is gained by a mediaeval spiral staircase. (There is a small hire fee for this room depending on numbers).
Q. Can I hire out the entire restaurant?
Yes we have closed down for a few one-off functions. Subject to notice and the function, then it is possible; please contact us to discuss the details.
Q. Do you have an Internet connection?
Unfortunately we do not have Internet capabilities for diners.
Q. Can we bring pets?
We cannot accommodate dogs or other pets, other than guide dogs for the blind or assist dogs.
Q. Can I bring my own wine and what is yourCorkage charge?
Yes, however we charge £10 per 75cl bottle wine and £15 per 75cl Champagnes.
Please let us have the wine an hour beforehand to allow us time to chill and for sediment to settle if an older red.
Q. What is the largest table size I can book?
The only restrictions we have on table sizes are on Friday and Saturday evenings, when the maximum table size is for 8 people normally. For parties larger than 8 people (only on Friday and Saturday evenings), you can enjoy a private function upstairs in the unique Frater Room. Access to the Frater Room is gained by a mediaeval spiral staircase (there is a small hire fee for this room depending on numbers). We can flex this if you wish to book the whole restaurant or the courtyard, please call and ask to speak to the manager and they will be happy to talk you through the different options.
